Tallahassee's BSA Troop 117
Giving back to the Community

Community Service Projects

  • Road Side Clean Up
    • Our troop is committed to keeping our comminity clean.  As part of our efforts, we perform regular road side clean ups of Thornton and Arendale Roads.
  • Conservation Projects
    • Troop 117 regularly performs conservation projects such as state park clean ups and dune errosion care.
  • Scouting for Food
    • Every year Scouts all over the nation take part in a National Good Turn called Scouting for Food. If you live in our area, you'll see us out one weekend hanging specially marked plastic bags on everyone's front door. We ask that you fill these bags with non-perishable food items. We'll be back the next weekend to collect the bags. All food collected is donated to local food banks.
  • Service to Our Chartering Organization
    • Silent auction
      •  During our annual holiday party we have a silent auction of donated goods.  It is a fun time, and we the money raised is donated to our chartering organization Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church
    • Pumpkin unloading and pumpkin turning
      • If you live in Tallahassee, you've most likely seen and probably visited it - The Pumpkin Patch at Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church. Every October we help the church unload truck loads and cover the grounds with hundreds of pumpkins.  The sales of these pumpkins support many church programs.
  • Service to our Scouting Community
    • The scouts and leadership of our troop are involved in many projects which benefits our local scouting community.  Some example are: organizing council leadership training events, organizing and running camporees, and performing conservation and service projects at Wallwood, the council's scout reservation.
