Webelos Update for Monday, November 2nd

Hello Webelos!

Everyone did a great job on the Athlete Activity Badge tonight. All the boys that participated showed progress, which is fantastic.

Homework this week is pretty light. If you are going camping this weekend, the boys should read over the Outdoorsman Activity Badge in the Webelos Handbook.

There are NO meetings next Monday. Watch your email as we finalize plans to march in the Veteran's Day Parade on Wednesday the 11th.

Webelos Trip to FSU School of Theater Info

Tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 27th) is the Webelos Field Trip to the FSU School of Theater. This is a great opportunity to see the inner workings of a full fledged modern theater and it ties in nicely with out Showman discussions.

We will meet at 6:20pm at the Parking Garage on the southwest corner of Tennessee Street and Macomb Street. Once you are parked, we will gather on the sidewalk south of the Parking Garage, along Call Street. Mr. Vandenberg will lead us from there.

Two important bits about the Theater... first, no food or drink inside. Second, you must be in closed toe shoes. No flip flops, sandals or crocs are allowed for safety reasons. The show we are touring has mechanical scenery that reacts poorly to bad shoes. All scouts should be in full Class A uniform.

Monday Update - October 19th

Hello Webelos Families!

Next Monday is the Pack Meeting, so most of the boys have no homework this week. There are a few exceptions... if your Scout is new to Scouting, and has not earned his Bobcat Badge, please please please try to get that done before Monday (and let your Den Leader know).

I apologize for the oversight here, but all new Scouts have to earn Bobcat before they can be awarded anything else. The requirements for this Badge are not difficult, and can be found on page 42 of he current Webelos handbook.

Do not panic if this isn't possible, we'll take care of it in November. They just need to get that before they can be awarded Webelos Rank, or anything else. If you have questions, please let me or a Den leader know.

Remember, full Class A uniform for Monday's Pack Meeting.

Next Tuesday, the 27th of October, we have our special bonus field trip to FSU School of Theater. More info (parking, etc.) will be going out to you this week via e-mail.

The first meeting in November will be back at Buck Lake Elementary for the last Athlete meeting. The boys are doing great and were showing great progress tonight! Keep up the practicing, especially the pull ups!

Homework For Next Week, October 12th

Next Week we will continue working on the Showman badge. Every boy should do a little research and find out some info on an American composer and bring it in to share. This info should include an example of the composer's work.

In the Patrol Meetings next week, we will be talking about Shakespeare and his Globe Theater.

For the following week (Oct 19th)...

I want to wrap up Citizen and Fitness for all new Webelos. I also would like to have Bobcat finished for our new Scouts. There is a large Bobcat ceremony as part of the Pack Meeting on Oct. 26th, and I would like to get all the new Scouts their Bobcat badge.

Don't forget... ATHLETE! Keep practicing those pull ups, sit ups, push ups!

Athlete Activity Badge, Day 1

We had 18 Scouts out to Buck Lake Elementary School this evening for an hour of running, jumping, and exercise. The boys all worked very hard and put forth their "Do Your Best" attitude.

We started the Athlete Activity Badge with a 1/4 mile run, 50 yard dash, pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, standing long jump, and vertical leap. Whew! Made me tired just to watch. Most of all the boys had fun.

PARENTS: Your Scout needs to improve in the following areas over the next month: Sit-ups, push-ups, vertical leap, standing long jump, 50 yard dash, and... the pull ups. That's going to be the big one right there. Encourage your Scout to practice, practice, practice. In order to earn the badge, they *must* show improvement in each exercise after 30 days. I am not going to be a complete stickler - if they can do half a pull up where previously they could only hang, great. You get the idea. However, they need to put forth an honest effort to improve.

Tell them to remember the Scout oath, "... and keep myself physically strong..." They can all do it, I'm sure.

A reminder that this Monday's Webelos meeting (9.28.09) will be at Buck Lake Elementary so we can work on the Athlete Activity Badge. Wear Class B and shoes appropriate for running.

Pack Meetings, and Athlete Activity Badge

The September Pack Meeting is tomorrow night, and it will be combined with the Popcorn Kickoff meeting. Everyone be sure to wear your full Class A uniform. The Raccoon Patrol has been tasked with helping clean up after the meeting, so please hang around to help out - it won't take long. Also, the Dragon Patrol has the Gathering Activity and Set up, so try to be at the church by 10 after 6. The Cobra Patrol has the Opening Ceremony.

Next week, Monday September 28th, will will begin our work on the Athlete Activity Badge. We will *NOT* be meeting at the church as usual, but somewhere more suited to outdoor activities. No, I'm not sure where yet. We will get that information out this week.

All scouts should wear a Class B uniform for this meeting, and wear shoes for running.

As Homework, I need all Webelos I's to be working on the Citizen and Fitness Activity Badges. Over the past two meetings, we have covered all the Citizen material, but scouts that were absent need to get caught up.

Also, at the Athlete AB Meeting on the 28th, I'd like all Webelis to be able to recite the Scout Oath. ("On my honor, I will do my best...").

We are working toward all Webelos having earned rank by November.

The only Boy Scout Camporee is scheduled for October 3 through 5. I understand this is right in the middle of our popcorn selling. I have spoken with the Committee Chair of Troop 117 and we are welcomed to go with them on this Camporee.
